Canada Work Permit

Generally, foreign nationals seeking to work in Canada require a job offer supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). However, various exceptions to this requirement exist. Canada offers two main types of work permits:

Employer-Specific Work Permit

This type of permit allows you to work for a specific employer named on the permit.

Open Work Permit

This permit provides more flexibility, allowing you to work for any employer in Canada, with certain exceptions for ineligible occupations (e.g., those not compliant with labor laws). An open work permit does not require a job offer or an LMIA at the time of application.

Work Permit Application Process:

Typically, applying for a Canadian work permit involves having a job offer. Following this, the employer usually needs to obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). Once the LMIA is approved (if required), you can then proceed to apply for your work permit. It’s important to note that Canadian work permits generally have a maximum validity of four years.
